The flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, did not receive an invitation to the State of the Nation Address by President John Dramani Mahama.

This was revealed by Mr Akufo-Addo’s press secretary, Eugene Arhin, who said normally an invitation was presented to the opposition, but on this occasion, state protocol and parliament failed to invite the three-time flagbearer.

“Often during ceremonies like this, we would receive an invitation from parliament or state protocol, but in this instance, neither did we hear from the state protocol nor parliament and, so, there was nothing we could do. Akufo-Addo, as a patriotic citizen, was willing and ready to attend the event,” he told Kasapa FM on Friday 26 February, 2016.

President Mahama delivered his last State of the Nation Address for his first term to parliament on Thursday 25 February, 2016 where he outlined various achievements by government.

Meanwhile the Danquah-Busia-Dombo party has set Monday 29 February for the flagbearer to present what the party describes as ‘The True State of the Nation’ address at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons.
