The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu, has disclosed that government is deploying a combine team of military and police personnel to illegal mining sites across the country.

The deployment, according to him will be done in two weeks and that it will target illegal miners who engage in the nefarious acts at night.

The personnel are expected to remain in the illegal mining sites for at least a year.

Mr. Amewu disclosed this to Accra based Citi FM Wednesday, saying the recent move will completely end the menace.

“Through observation we have detected that they have adopted a new strategy, which is illegally mining at night. We are deploying the [military and police] forces very soon. May be next week or in two-week times.

“It could be anytime and this people are going to stay in the field for at least a minimum of one year. So we expect that because these guys are going to stay both day and night they will be to track some of these nocturnal guys during their activities in the night,” he stated.

He said government will not relent on the fight against the menace.
